A good opportunity for a unique, small home based business is tutoring. If you’re educationally inclined and like children, tutoring could be the business for you.
After school, before school or on the weekends, you can tutor right from the comfort of your own home. Or, if you need a more studious atmosphere, the library provides a nice alternative.
Most students need tutoring in major coursework, like math, reading or science and social studies. Generally, these are the subjects that give students the most problem.
Determine the Need for a Small Home Based Business
If you’re seriously thinking about tutoring as a small home based business, one of the first places to start is the school district.
Talk to the principals, librarians and district officials to see where the greatest need is for the service that you’ll provide.
Also periodically visit the library and monitor the students that frequent it. Let those that are in charge know that you’d like to help. Move around quietly asking others if they need assistance. Ask librarians about areas that they’ve observed for improvement. Monitor everyone’s response. If it’s good, go with that specific need, if not, try others.
Maintain Supplies for Your Small Home Based Business
Make sure that you have the supplies that you need when you decide to give assistance to others.
For tutoring, you’ll need: pencils, paper, markers, pens, paper clips, staplers, etc. Just in case the student doesn’t have them, you want to be sure you do. This will cut down on lag time.
Also make sure you can navigate on the computer. Students are extremely computer literate these days and they know exactly where to go. You want to be sure that you do too.
Develop these habits and stock up on these tools and you’ll be on your way to a successful small home based business.
